英文作文 篇2

if we have a book ,we will not be felling of being longly

When I`m free or in trouble, I always take out a book and read quietly. In no time, I`ve put my heart into it so that I`ll forget all the troubles. It`s in this way that I`ve formed the habit of reading in any time.

Little boys as I was, I was interest in picture books and storybooks. I was struck by them. No sooner had I entered the middle school than I began to read novel, plays, essays and so on. I found I could get much from them. Little by little I took great interest in literature and last term I won the first prize in the composition contest among middle-school students in Zhe Jiang.

Reading “The Emperor`s New Clothes”, I had to let out a burst of laughter over his fool. “The Little Match Girl” couldn`t keep me from crying for her misery. “ Robinson Crusoe” took me into a strange world full of danger. And I was also deeply impressed by Helen Keller`s patience and perseverance… Besides these, books also tell me other thing -how to be a man and how to tell the difference between right and wrong. In a word, good books can make me know what I didn`t before. So I think of a good book as my best friend.

I`ll never forget this famous saying,“ Good books are best friends who never turn their backs upon us.”

英文作文 篇3

---Book Review: “Camille” I read the Chinese version of“Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by themain character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of theCamellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of MargueriteGautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately,it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that lifeand dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was anoble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I didnot care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I gotfurther into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude wasa front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She feltused, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came intoher life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not forwhat she could do for him. It must have taken great courage forMarguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing allalong that it was probably too good to be true and would not lastindefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really lovedArmand Duval for she could even change herself for him. However, happiness didn’t lastfor long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading forher to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that ofhis younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure ofheart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because sheloved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up herown happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantlyreturned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand wouldforgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, exceptfor her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during herillness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumasslast few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rulewere quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while herlifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all ofthese type of women are cold and heartless, while this may notalways be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in lifewhen they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimespast situations prevent them from changing their lives, even thoughthey desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and womenin many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime;drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems;poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists inthe whole society. As far as the other charactersin the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no onetruly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the onlyexceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte deG. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke neededto “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could neverreplace his dead daughter. If he truly cared, he could have helpedher leave her lifestyle without “keeping” her himself. And lastly,Prudence was a blood-sucking leech who used Marguerite almost worsethan the men. I also think she was jealous of the fact thatMarguerite had so much more courage than herself and someone trulyloved morning, when tiding my bookshelf, I took this book out of theshelf, and a dried flower flew away from the book. It was paleblue, very transparent, with thin fine veins. a dried flower flewaway from the book. It was pale blue, very transparent, with thinfine veins. I held it against the morning light and blew on it. Thesoft breeze carried it away. Camille is just likethe camellia, she could never escape from the destiny of it wasn’t her fau< it’s because of the evil of Capitalism andthe hideousness of that society. Suddenly, I remembered asaying: “Women are like the flowers”. Those pretty women are likethose beautiful flowers; their delicate beauty makes people feelthey are the miracle of life. However, even the God envies theirbeauty. It seems that beautiful women always have tragic we are normal persons, even we can see the hideousness ofhumanity that results in their fate of withering, we can at mostask quietly in our hearts: Where have those beautiful flowers gone?Where have they gone?

英文作文 篇4

National flags are not merely symbols of a country. Their colors and designs convey past history and future goals. Flags have powerfulconnotations(内涵). They speak to the people and politicians. People of one country will burn the flag of another with whose politics they do not agree. To show their anger, students display their own nation's flags with the design altered or cut out completely. Dictators fly flags;dissidents(持不同政见者) rip them down. In every country of the world, the treatment of a flag displays an opinion or statement.

Americans take the treatment of their flag seriously and in the 20th century this has become an important issue. Included in the code of ethics are such rules as the national flag cannot be used for advertising. It cannot cover a monument or any ceilings. It must not be folded while being displayed. No one should write on an American flag. Ships can lower their flags slightly in greeting each other, but otherwise should not be dipped for any other object or person.

In the late 1960s, American students wore small flags sewn to the back of their jeans, symbolically insulting the American government and protesting its involvement in the Vietnam War. They burned the American flag in front of theCapitol Building(国会大厦)in Washington as a statement of protest. In the early 1990s, senators suggested an amendment to theConstitution(宪法)that would make this treatment of the flag illegal. Theproposition(提议、议案)was opposed because many others felt that this change would be a violation of Americans' constitutional rights to express their opinions freely.

英文作文 篇7

The "Chong Yang Festival" is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, and it is as such known as the Double Ninth Festival.

Origins: The festival began as early as the Warring States Period (475 - 221 BC). According to the yin/yang dichotomy that forms a basis to the Chinese world view, yin represents the elements of darkness and yang represents life and brightness. The number nine is regarded as yang. The ninth day of the ninth month is a double yang day, hence the name "Chong Yang Festival". (Chong means "repeat" in Chinese.) The ninth month also heralds the approach of winter. It is a time when the living need warm clothing, and filial Chinese sons and daughters extended this to make the festival a time for providing winter clothes for their ancestors. The Double Ninth Festival, therefore, also became an occasion to visit the graves of dead family members. Clothes made of paper would then be burnt as offerings.

Climbing mountains: On the Double Ninth Festival, people customarily climb mountains, appreciate chrysanthemum flowers, drink chrysanthemum wine, and eat double-ninth cakes. The Double Ninth Festival is also the "Old Men Festival". Old people are especially meant to improve their health by taking part in the activities on the day of the festival.

Family get-togethers: The Double Ninth Festival is also a time for family get-togethers. It is an occasion to remember one's ancestors, the sacrifices they made and the hardships they underwent. Often, family outings are organised during which people search to renew their appreciation of nature and to reaffirm their love and concern for family members and close friends.
